The Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people with mental illness

Travel policy

The college is reiterating its travel policy arrangements to Members and staff as part of an efficiency drive.

Members booking travel through the college are kindly reminded that the following principles will apply:

  • Please try to send the booking request three weeks in advance to get the best price options

  • No Anytime rail returns can be booked without an approved exception by a Director

  • Members are asked to be flexible with train times, slightly later trains can be cheaper

  • Peak time travel should be avoided if possible as it can increase the cost of a ticket by 60%

  • When requesting travel please consider if a hotel is required, only request accommodation if it is unreasonable to return the same day

  • Hotels can be booked months ahead and once booked the price will be fixed, even if you do not know what time you will travel or what train you want you could book your hotel first

  • Bar bills or room service costs (outside the meal limit) must be borne by the traveller

  • Most hotels will require 24/48 hours’ notice for cancellation; if you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as you know
