Prizes in the South West Division
Innovation Prize
This prize is awarded annually at the Autumn Biannual Meeting.
All Senior Psychiatrists are invited to submit an example of
innovation or leadership (either individually or as a team) across
the whole spectrum of modern psychiatric practice. The competition
is open to all Consultants, Associate Specialists and Staff Grades
in the South West Division who are either fellows, members or
affiliates of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. A prize of £150
will be awarded to the winner who will be expected to give a short
presentation at the Autumn Biannual Meeting.

Dr Sherlie Arulanandam
Divisional Poster Presentation Prize
This prize is awarded at the Spring and Autumn Biannual Meetings
and is open to Trainees and SAS/ Specialist Doctors. Entrants will
be invited to display a poster at the Biannual Meeting and an
abstract will be published in the Programme and Abstracts Booklet.
A prize of £150 will be awarded to the overall winner and to the
presentation demonstrating greatest innovation. Submissions should
be on any aspect of psychiatry, e.g. a piece of research being
undertaken, a new research project about to commence, or an audit.
The number of posters is limited and will be allocated on a first
come, first served basis.

Dr Stephen Dinniss Foundation and Medical Students Poster
Prize
This prize is awarded at the Spring and Autumn Biannual Meetings
and is open to Foundation Year Doctors and Medical Students who are
invited to submit a poster and abstract. The selected entrants will
be invited to display a poster at the ABM and the abstract will be
published in the Programme and Abstracts Booklet. A prize of £150
will be awarded to the overall winner. Submissions should be on any
aspect of psychiatry. Those considered for the award will be
offered a free place at the ABM.

The Lisa Thomas Poetry Prize
This is an annual prize open to anyone connected with mental
health. They can have previously used or are using mental health
services, support a friend or relative who uses or has used mental
health services or works within the mental health sector. The poem
should be unpublished and have a mental health theme. The prize
will be presented annually at the Spring Biannual Meeting.

Trainees Prize
This prize is awarded annually at the Spring Biannual Meeting.
Trainees are invited to submit an essay of no more than 1500 words,
on a topic chosen by the Committee and relevant to the practice of
psychiatrists in the South West. The title of the essay may be
found in the entry form and regulations document. The competition
is open to all trainees working in the South West Division at the
time of submission who are either inceptors or members of the Royal
College of Psychiatrists.
The winning essay will be published in the Programme and
Abstracts booklet and the winning author will receive £150.

Undergraduate Medical Student Prize
This prize is awarded annually at the Spring Biannual Meeting.
Undergraduate Medical Students are invited to submit an essay of no
more than 1500 words, on a topic to be chosen by the Committee. The
title of the essay may be found in the entry form and regulations
document. The competition is open to all Undergraduate Medical
Students currently enrolled with medical training establishments in
the South West Division at the time of submission.
The winning essay will be published in the Programme and
Abstracts booklet and the winning author will receive £150.

Research Prize
This prize is awarded annually at the Spring Biannual Meeting.
All Trainee Psychiatrists and non-consultants in the South West
Division are invited to submit an abstract from a research paper on
a topic across the whole spectrum of modern psychiatric practice.
The research paper discussed must have been written by the entrant
and published in the calendar year prior to the SBM year.
Nominations can be made by self, colleague or member of the
multi-disciplinary team, any College member or the Scientific
Organising Committee of the Biannual Meeting. A prize of £150 will
be awarded to the best entry and presented at the Spring Biannual
Meeting.
