HMP TC Integrated Audits
As an accredited Offending Behaviour Programme, Therapeutic
Communities within the prison service are required to operate in
compliance with the Core Model accredited by the Correctional
Services Advice and Accreditation Panel. This Core Model
requires the Therapeutic Community to adhere to the Community of
Communities standards for Democratic Therapeutic Communities,
linking prison TCs with the wider theoretical and clinical
practices of TCs in other sectors.
The integrated audit is a biennial joint review which
provides HMP TCs an opportunity both to measure
compliance with the Core Model, identifying areas for
improvement and development, and to demonstrate the quality and
efficacy of their services through recording areas of achievement
and best practice.
Aims and objectives of the joint-review
process:
- Improve the quality and effectiveness of TCs within the prison
service
- Provides a system for measuring the performance of TCs
against the accredited HMPS Democratic Therapeutic Communities Core
Model
- Engage prison TCs with TCs from different settings in a network
of supportive relationships
- Involve TC staff and client members in setting appropriate
standards and evaluating the service they provide
- Promote best practice through shared learning and developing
external links
- Build the clinical skills and knowledge of TC staff in
prisons
