The Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people with mental illness

Our sustainability scholars

We have worked with the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare to create two Sustainability Scholarship positions. These are advanced trainees in psychiatry who use their special interest day to work with their local CCG to develop sustainable models of care. Through this scholarship programme they gain a unique opportunity to work with CSH, to learn about sustainability and commissioning and develop skills in leadership and quality improvement.

Our current sustainability scholars:

 Bushra Azam

Dr Bushra Azam

Dr Azam is a ST7 higher trainee in general adult and old age psychiatry in Sheffield health and social care trust. She has a broad clinical, academic and teaching experience. As part of her sustainability scholarship, she is with the college centre for quality improvement (CCQI) in mapping various psychiatric services against sustainability principles. Her future ambition is to continue working with the sustainability committee to make the provision of psychiatry services more sustainable in the long run.

 Jamie Richardson

Dr Jamie Richardson

Dr Richardson is a higher trainee in the Psychiatry of Intellectual Disability in Leeds as well as undertaking an out of programme experience as a Psychiatry Tutor at the University of Leeds. As part of his Sustainability Scholarship, he is working on two strands of sustainability in education within the College. As well as developing a sustainability module for CPD Online, Jamie is producing proposals for changes to the core training curriculum with a view to embed sustainability into the curriculum. As well as working these projects, he is looking forward to working more broadly with the Sustainability Committee of the College to advance the committee's aims.
