We are delighted to have been able to organise this joint faculty event looking at transitions and interfaces between the age range.

The  programme is packed with expert speakers and interactive sessions on contemporaneous issues relevant to both faculties. This was developed in collaboration between the faculties to address and guide you through the " tricky conversations " you will inevitably end up having with your colleagues.

We will be hosting a joint workshop looking at nationwide consensus on transitions.  Come with your examples of patient transfers from GAP to OAP, especially highlighting the challenges. We are in a unique position in Scotland where our Faculties and Health Boards are just the right size to develop consensus guidelines to streamline the transitions once and for all.

General Adult Psychiatry has the highest level of consultant vacancies for any psychiatric specialty across Scotland. There is a relentless increase in demand, public expectations that are hard to fulfil and sub-specialities that feel increasing appealing to trainees coming through. Times are tough! We therefore invite our GAP colleagues to join us in a debate on whether General Adult Psychiatry has a future as a speciality in the NHS in Scotland.

For our Older Adult psychiatry colleagues, this conference is focusing on functional illness in older adults in a break from default emphasis on organic illnesses which tends to occupy us. We are starting off the conversation on functional illness with Clozapine and neurodivergence.  We hope to revisit lithium, resistant depression in the future.

As OAP Faculty Chair, Dr Pattan would like to take this opportunity to encourage colleagues to attend this conference, to paraphrase in "bigly numbers" to be able to take part in what hope to be lively discussions (boxing gloves will be provided if you are desirous of settling this the old-fashioned way!).

We hope to see you there!
