Many people can understand pictures better than
words. Books Beyond Words (BBW) is a series
of picture books that has been developed to make communicating
easier for these people, and to enable discussion about difficult
topics. Supporting text and guidelines are also provided for
carers, supporters and professionals. The series is particularly
useful for people with learning
(intellectual) difficulties.
BBW shortlisted for the
Diversity Award of the Independent
Publishing Awards 2010
(in conjunction with The Bookseller and the London Book
Fair).
Royal College of
Psychiatrists received a place for its Books Beyond
Words series, helping people with reading, learning or mental
health difficulties to deal with emotions or events. Judges praised
RCP’s strong production and marketing. “There is plenty of evidence
that these books are well regarded and well used.”
