Support us

We exist to improve the lives of people with mental illness, though the inspirational and life changing work of its members.

We rely on membership fees and donations to fund vital work setting standards, advancing mental health research and promoting the best possible psychiatric care.

Through the generosity of our members, private philanthropists, charitable trusts and foundations and legacies we’ve already helped to shape the future of psychiatric education, contributed to research which could change the lives of patients with mental illness and supported future generations of psychiatrists.

This work has included:

  • The integration of neuroscience into the psychiatric curriculum, through grant funding from The Gatsby Charitable Foundation and The Wellcome Trust
  • Introducing postgraduate clinical research Fellowships which will impact on the future treatment and diagnosis of particular mental health conditions. These have all been made possible with the generous support of legacy gifts and grant funding.
  • A Fellowship programme which welcomes the brightest and best medical students into psychiatry and ensures that they are given a voice and profile as future leaders within mental health.
  • Bursaries and scholarship programmes which support psychiatric trainees to develop their specialist knowledge, skills and networks to enhance their future career.
  • A Fellowship programme for Black Medical Students that offers a range of benefits including a mentor, CPD fund and a fully funded place at RCPsych International Congress.

And this is just the start.

We want to create sustainable partnerships which mean everyone can get the best possible mental health support and which enhance psychiatric practice. We want to tackle the big questions/global challenge around mental health.

How you can make a difference

You can make a donation to the College either as a one off or on a monthly basis.

We provide continuous professional development, training and advice to psychiatrists at all stages in their career.

We run fellowship programmes for medical students considering psychiatry as well as networking and development events for trainees.

These are all funded by donations from members; those with long established careers often support psychiatrists who are just starting out in the profession. Every gift makes a difference.

If you’d like to make a donation please use the links on this website or contact the Development Office on 0208 618 4075 or email development@rcpsych.ac.uk.

A will is a good way to plan for the needs of your family and loved ones.

By leaving a gift to The Royal College of Psychiatrists you can also contribute to ground breaking advances in the diagnosis and treatment of metal health problems.

Please contact the Development Office on 0208 618 4075 or development@rcpsych.ac.uk for more  information.

The College has a vital role to play in promoting psychiatry as a career and championing the voice of psychiatrists.

In a career which combines the science of mental health with the opportunity to make a real and lasting difference to patients’ lives we need sustainable support to ensure that psychiatry is promoted as a positive career choice for medical students.
