About RCPsych Publications

RCPsych PublicationsWho we are and what we do
Part of the College's remit is to promote the dissemination of information about mental health issues, for both mental health professionals and the general public.  The book list has been developed with the aim of making high quality texts available at reasonable prices.  Books are published under the imprint 'RCPsych Publications'.

Our main book series include:

Our history
The book programme was established properly in the 1980s and the first book published was Contemporary Issues in Schizophrenia in 1986.  There are currently over 110 titles in print, with an average of 8 new books being published each year.

The first imprint was in honour of Samuel Gaskell who was an influential mid-Victorian psychiatrist and Medical Superintendent of the County Asylum in Lancaster. An imprint is used in order to reflect the fact that the content of books is independent from formal College policy.

From Gaskell to RCPsych Publications
Please note that the 'RCPsych Publications' imprint was formerly known as 'Gaskell' until the year 2007.  The name was changed to increase recognition of our products within the book trade and in line with other College-wide branding measures.
