The government has made clear the importance of measuring the quality of healthcare and its intention to create an NHS which is more responsive to patients.

This report provides guidance on the use of outcome measures in mental health based on what is of clinical value to patients and clinicians and what is feasible in practice. It recommends the implementation of patient-reported outcome measures in mental health as a way of improving the quality of care provided.  The report gives advice on which outcome measures to use in adult psychiatry.
