In response to members queries raised at the March annual conference

  1. Information outlining the arguments against Ageless services can be found on resource section along with our needs led criteria.
As a Faculty we strongly believe that there is a need for old age psychiatric services as we are the mental health specialists best able to meet the complex needs of older people.
We will be surveying members to get an assessment of the current position re services at the beginning of May and the results will go on the website.
  2. Concern was expressed about international recognition of single CCT in Old age.
We will be putting a paper together with evidence and feedback from the relevant regulators to robustly address this concern. This will go into the trainee section when it is competed.
  3. The Faculty is looking for patients or carers willing to talk to the media about depression in older people.
If you have any potential cases please download the letter for them and for your trusts.
  4. Two sessions are coming up on Old Age psychiatry at the International congress Current and future therapeutic advances in dementia on the afternoon of the 26 June 2017.
    This session will include:
The new BAP Guidelines for Managing Dementia
Therapeutics for Lewy body Dementia: Old and New
    Preventing dementia: a realistic prospect?
And another session on the afternoon of the 29 June 2017 intriguingly titled Has Psychiatry given up on Dementia?
  5. The new Chief Coroner has issued new guidance that makes clear that “deaths under DOLS” are not automatically to be considered as being under state detention where the death occurs after 3 April 2017.
  6. Summary of the work done by the executive on your behalf will be summarised in the forthcoming newsletter.
