Professor Nandini Chakraborty

Professor Chakraborty is a Consultant Psychiatrist in early intervention in psychosis at Leicester Partnership NHS Trust and an honorary professor with the University of Leicester. She was one of 25 women highlighted as part of a special project raising awareness of the stories of 25 outstanding female psychiatrists in 2020. After studying at Calcutta Medical College for her MBBS, she completed her MD in Psychiatry from India’s Central Institute of Psychiatry. She was Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Associate Dean for Equivalence from 2016 to 2021. In 2021 she took up the role of Clinical lead for National Recruitment in Psychiatry, NHSE, Workforce Training and Education. She published the first book on CESR in psychiatry in 2023.
Nandini has a keen interest in psychopathology and phenomenology. She is a member of the WHO SCAN (Schedules for assessment in neuropsychiatry) international panel. She has also delivered mhGAP training in Nigeria and Uganda. She has been involved in psychiatric teaching in Malawi and Palestine. Her involvement in volunteering and global mental health incorporates partnerships with projects in Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Outside professional life, she is a keen traveller and has recently published her first travel book. She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer and part of a dance group in Leicester called Navaratna which is constituted of women psychiatrists and their friends.
