Lenny Cornwall has been a consultant in general adult psychiatry for 28 years. He currently works in a community mental health team in Redcar, Teesside. His CMHT was awarded the working-age adults team of the year in the RCPsych awards 2020.

He is also the medical lead for appraisal, revalidation and job planning at Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Trust. He has held previous leadership roles in the Trust as Director of Medical Education and as a Deputy Medical Director.

His first role in the College was as a trainee representative, and he was Chair of the PRDC (then called the Collegiate Trainees Committee or CTC) from 1996 to 1997) and represented the College at the European Federation of Psychiatric Trainees.

Later he was elected to the executive committee of the Faculty of General Adult Psychiatry. He went on the be elected Finance Officer (2011-2015) and Chair (2015-19) of the faculty. As the chair of the faculty, he made a significant contribution to the Crisp Commission report into the state of adult acute care and he has continued to campaign to end out-of-area admissions for acutely unwell psychiatric patients.
