Dr Mohamed Elsout
International Medical Graduate (IMG) representative
My passion towards helping others is what drew me to psychiatry, and it is what brings me to the PRDC. I see how many challenges our internationally trained colleagues face and, as IMG representative, I want to bring a voice into the PRDC not just to represent, but to genuinely advocate for change where it matters most. The barriers IMGs face are real and often invisible, inequitable workplace experiences, slower progression, and the silent weight of building a career far from home. I want to work with resident doctors to move beyond identifying these problems and start solving them together.
I am an ST4 in General Adult Psychiatry in NHS Wales, with a deep interest in quality improvement and neurodevelopmental disorders and its effects on different life phases e.g perinatal period. My own journey as an IMG from relocating away from home, adapting through different health care systems in different countries, shapes everything I do clinically and professionally. Long term, I want to be someone who makes change to a route full of challenges and difficulties for IMGs to make it easier and rewarding rather than stressful and doubtful.
Outside work, I keep myself busy through weightlifting, photography, and football.
