Dr Mayura Deshpande
Presidential Lead for Safer Services
Mayura Deshpande is a forensic psychiatrist with experience of adult and adolescent forensic psychiatry, management and research. She is the National Specialty Advisor in secure care to NHS England and advises NHS England on community and inpatient transformation for mental illness and neurodiversity, service pathways, workforce, quality standards and legislation, and has overseen the rollout of national NHS programmes.
She works clinically in a specialist community forensic service in Hampshire & Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and is the Caldicott Guardian for the Trust. She has a longstanding interest in ethics and law, has previously chaired the RCPsych Professional Practice & Ethics Committee and is the College’s Associate Registrar for Policy and its lead for the Invited Review Service. She is an honorary Senior Lecturer in the University of Southampton Faculty of Medicine, where her research interests include patient safety, mental health homicide investigation methodology and victims’ rights.
