Presidential Lead for Integrated Care

Dr Sarah Brown is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist and senior medical leader with extensive experience in psychiatry, healthcare leadership and the integration of physical and mental healthcare. She has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in Cumbria Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Trust (CNTW) since 2009, initially as a community psychiatrist and specialising in liaison psychiatry since 2012. She has also held a number of senior medical leadership roles as Associate and Group Medical Director within CNTW, and as Honorary AMD for mental health for Newcastle Hospitals. She is an active teacher, trainer, coach/mentor and appraiser.

Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, she has recently been appointed to a new role within North East and North Cumbria ICB as clinical lead for secondary care mental health.

Within the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Sarah has been an executive and co-opted member of the liaison faculty, notably co-authoring the Side By Side (2020) position statement & contributing to the MEED guidance (2022). She is a current member of the Leadership and Management Committee as a well as a CASC examiner. She has particular interests in leadership, service transformation, developing others and improving integration between physical and mental health services.

Outside work she enjoys hot yoga, a good read and learning to play the piano.
