Dr Inês Hipólito

Dr Inês Hipólito is a tenure-track Assistant Professor at Macquarie University and a cognitive scientist at the Macquarie Ethics and Agency Research Centre. Her academic career includes a lecturing position at the renowned Berlin School of Mind and Brain at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and she was the recipient of the Amsterdam Brain and Cognition Talent Grant (2021) from the University of Amsterdam for her project on the impact of AI on well-being.

As a co-Principal Investigator on the Berlin University Alliance-funded project 'Neurourbanism', Dr Hipólito has contributed significantly to interdisciplinary research initiatives. She also serves as AI Ethicist Lead Expert and Senior Research Engineer at VERSES, a cognitive computing company. 

Specialising in the philosophy of mind and cognitive science, Dr Hipólito's research explores how the sociocultural environment influences cognitive development, flourishing, and mental health, with a particular focus on AI-permeated environments. Her work bridges philosophy and cognitive science, offering innovative perspectives on the impact of technology on human cognition.

With a strong academic foundation and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, Dr Hipólito co-founded and serves as the president of the International Society for the Philosophy of the Sciences of the Mind. She is dedicated to advancing the field and fostering scholarly exchange. Additionally, she has served as an elected member of the Women in Philosophy and Diversity Committees at the Australasian Association of Philosophy, reflecting her commitment to inclusivity and diversity in academia.
