RCPsych in Scotland Medical Psychotherapy Faculty Conference 2024

We welcome you to the College in Scotland's Medical Psychotherapy Faculty's Annual Conference and AGM 2024 on Friday 15 November at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel in Edinburgh.

The theme of this year's conference is "Outside Spaces: Working with the Homeless and Displaced" and our draft programme is now available.

As psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals, we are often working with those who are displaced – displaced from society, from their places of origin, from their families of origin, from the scaffolding that can make life feel safe. For some, though, such scaffolding itself doesn't necessarily feel safe, and it may come with complex connotations.

In this conference, we will explore, from a medical, a psychodynamic, and a therapeutic perspective, work that is done with homeless and displaced people. The speakers include Dr Andy Williams, Consultant Psychiatrist in Medical Psychotherapy, who has long specialised in working with sufferers of traumatisation who are homeless.
