Event Information

Join us for this masterclass on Tribunal Reports and Evidence with Consultant Solicitor, Georga Godwin.  Georga will present on ‘First-tier Tribunal: Reports & Evidence’, and the presentation will cover the powers and procedures of the FTTMH and examine what written and oral psychiatric evidence should be given by psychiatrists.  The event will be supported by Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, Dr Hasanen Al-Taiar.  

Key learning objectives:

  1. To enable participants to feel more comfortable when writing Psychiatric Reports;
  2. To enable participants to give oral evidence in a persuasive manner;
  3. To enable participants to present psychiatric evidence as a legal argument.

Georga Godwin, Consultant Solicitor

Georga Godwin was called to the Bar in 2005, cross-qualified and is a Consultant Solicitor specialising in mental health and incapacity law.  Georga provides legal opinions on discharge planning, legal frameworks, and risk management strategies of high-profile offenders for Provider Collaboratives and NHS Trusts. She also represents forensic patients and children/adolescents.

Georga is an experienced trainer, providing training on all aspects of mental health and capacity law for NHSE, various NHS Trusts and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, including running the Medico-Legal Masterclasses, S. 12 MHA, and Approved Clinician courses.

Georga was shortlisted for The Law Society’s Human Rights Lawyer of the Year 2018, (the only mental health lawyer ever to be nominated). She is a contributing author to the Oxford Textbook of In-Patient Psychiatry (OUP, 2019) and ‘Giving Medical Evidence to the First-Tier Tribunal – Mental Health’ (BJPsych Advances, CUP, 2025).

This event will be recorded and available to all registered delegates to watch on demand. The recording will be available within one week of the live event taking place and will be emailed out to all registered delegates. The recording will be available to watch for 60 days from the event taking place.

Copies of speakers' slides will be included with the recording, but only in cases where we have received permission from the speaker.
