Venue and accessibility guide

We understand that attending large events can feel overwhelming, especially when you're unfamiliar with the venue. To help make your experience as smooth, comfortable, and enjoyable as possible, we've created this guide to events held at 21 Prescot Street.

Meeting rooms

Ground floor

Upon entering the Royal College of Psychiatrists, you will find the main Reception Desk. Our Conference Registration Desk is located adjacent to Reception and is staffed by our events team, who will be available to welcome and assist delegates throughout the day.

The Ground Floor also features:

  • Member's lounge
  • Meeting rooms G1-G7
  • Antiquarian Library
  • Cloakroom
  • Multi-faith room
  • Hot-desking area

First floor

The First Floor is home to our Main Auditorium (Room 1.7), which hosts larger conferences, lectures and presentations.

Additional meeting rooms on this floor include: Rooms 1.2-1.6

Visitors can also enjoy a bright and spacious Mezzanine Area, offering informal seating and breakout space for networking, refreshments and relaxation between sessions.

You can also find a 3D tour of the venue to help you familiarise yourself with the layout.

There is one main access point to the Royal College of Psychiatrists on Prescot Street.

The entrance has automatic double entrance doors which are followed by a revolving door and an accessible push-button door to the right.

Upon entering the Royal College of Psychiatrists, you will find the main Reception Desk, where visitors can obtain general assistance.

Our Conference Registration Desk is located adjacent to Reception and is staffed by our events team, who will be available to welcome and assist delegates throughout the day. 

There are three lifts available which can take you to the first floor meeting space.

Accessibility information

The RCPsych venue welcomes delegates and speakers with a guide dog or an assistance animal. If you will be attending with one please let your Event Manager or Event Administrator know in advance to help us make suitable arrangements. Please ensure that your assistance dog is clearly identifiable when entering the building to ensure that our stewards are aware of their presence. Please inform your Event 
If you have auditory sensitivity you are very welcome to bring your noise cancelling headphones to wear at the event.
A quiet room will also be available throughout the day, please ask a member of the Events Team for directions. If you would prefer to take breaks or enjoy refreshments in a quieter area, please let your Event Manager know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Refreshments and catering for our events are typically served in the Members' Area on the Ground Floor. Depending on the event, catering may also be available on the Mezzanine or in Room 1.6.

Tea and coffee will be provided during the morning and afternoon refreshment breaks, and a buffet lunch will be served during the lunch break.

Menus vary by event. If you would like further information about the catering arrangements or menu options, please contact your Event Manager or Event Administrator.

As part of our commitment to sustainability, all food and beverages are served using reusable china and glassware to help reduce waste. We also encourage delegates to bring a reusable water bottle or keep cup to use throughout the event.

Dietary requirements are collected in advance of each event. If you have any questions or concerns please speak to a member of the Events Team, who will be happy to assist.

If you would prefer to take refreshments in a quieter area, please let your Event Manager know in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
There is no formal dress code for our events. We encourage all delegates to wear whatever they feel most comfortable in, whether that’s business attire, casual wear, national dress, or clothing that meets specific sensory needs. Please attend in a way that best supports your wellbeing and participation.

We have a multi-faith room available to all delegates located in the members lounge on the ground floor 

Conference attendees are welcome to bring babies under 12 months of age into lectures, but we ask that babies are taken out of the room if they become unsettled.

We welcome breastfeeding anywhere at the venue but a private feeding room is available on the Ground Floor if preferred.

There is one disabled parking bay at the rear of the building in Yeoman's Yard, off Chamber Street which runs parallel to Prescot Street and can be accessed via Leman Street or Mansell Street. We understand that disability is not always simple and you will not need a Blue Badge to qualify to use our onsite parking space. 

This bay must be booked in advance by contacting your Event Manager.

We cannot guarantee availability for ad hoc requests.

We will have a dedicated quiet room available that you are welcome to use at any point during the event.

Please do not use this room for private meetings, this space is intended to provide a calm environment for delegates who might need to remove themself from the busyness of events. If you require a private meeting space, please visit the registration desk and we'll be able to tell what rooms are available.

Hearing Support

  • A hearing loop system is available on request.
  • Live captioning can be provided for online events.
  • If you have any hearing-related accessibility requirements, please contact your Event Manager or Event Administrator in advance so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

Visual Support

  • Printed event materials can be provided upon request. Please contact your Event Manager or Event Administrator before the event if you require materials in an alternative format.
  • If you will be attending with a guide dog, assistance animal or emotional support animal, please let your Event Manager or Event Administrator know in advance to help us make suitable arrangements.
  • If you have any visual accessibility requirements, please contact your Event Manager or Event Administrator so we can discuss how best to support your visit.
  • The Events Team will be happy to reserve seating close to screens or speakers if required. Please let us know in advance.

We have three lifts which are accessible to all floors

Accessible toilets can be found on the lower ground and ground floor. There is also an accessible shower on the lower ground floor
