Parliamentary Scholars Scheme

Are you a trainee with an interest in current affairs and politics? Would you like to develop your skills to be a future leader in mental health? If so you may be interested in applying to join the Royal College of Psychiatrists Parliamentary Scholars Programme.

The Parliamentary Scholarship

The programme gives the chance for ST4-6 trainees to spend one day a week at the House of Lords working with Peers with an interest in mental health and learning disability to develop leadership and other skills necessary to influence policy on mental health matters.

The RCPsych is very grateful to the former President of the College - Baroness Hollins - for helping to set up the scheme and for her ongoing support. We're delighted to be able to offer this opportunity again for 2023/24 to support up to five parliamentary scholars drawn from the range of psychiatric subspecialties to use their special interest sessions to develop experience in these areas.

Further details on how to apply can be found here. Applicants are required to submit a CV, supporting statement (one side of A4) and an application form to peter.hand@rcpsych.ac.uk. If you would like to discuss the Parliamentary Scholar scheme please contact peter.hand@rcpsych.ac.uk.

The closing date for applications is 6 October 2023. Interviews will be held in person at the Houses of Parliament on Thursday 09 November 2023.
