WISE-QM: Quality Mark for Wellbeing Initiatives and Services for Employees
WISE-QM is a joint initiative between the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) and the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych).
Together, these leading professional bodies are committed to shaping a more transparent, consistent, and effective wellbeing landscape across workplaces.
WISE-QM is a sector‑wide quality mark designed to recognise, strengthen, and standardise the provision of workplace wellbeing services. It provides a trusted benchmark for excellence, ensuring that organisations and employees receive support that is high‑quality, evidence‑informed, and genuinely impactful.
WISE-QM is a subscription-based quality improvement programme designed to assess and recognise providers delivering wellbeing services and initiatives to employees.
From coaching and therapeutic support to wellbeing programmes, digital tools, apps and EAPs, WISE-QM sets clear standards to support consistent, high-quality practice.
WISE-QM aims to:
- provide independent assurance of the quality, safety, and effectiveness of wellbeing products and services
- support providers to improve and strengthen their delivery, regardless of organisational size
- offer employers confidence when purchasing wellbeing services
- promote transparency and consistency across a diverse wellbeing marketplace
- encourage innovation while ensuring essential standards are met.
As the demand for wellbeing services grows, so does the need for clarity, confidence, and quality assurance.
WISE‑QM ensures that wellbeing providers demonstrate:
- safe and ethical practice
- high‑quality delivery
- effective service design
- transparent communication
- meaningful outcomes for employees
- robust governance appropriate to their scale.
With WISE-QM, organisations can demonstrate their commitment to responsible wellbeing provision, while providers gain recognition for achieving high standards in practice and delivery.
WISE-QM is designed not just to assess quality, but to help providers grow and strengthen their services. Participating organisations undertake a structured quality assurance process that includes:
- review of governance, policies, and delivery standards
- evaluation of service effectiveness and impact
- constructive, specialist feedback from trained assessors
- opportunities for reflection, improvement, and innovation.
The process is designed to be developmental, supportive, and focused on long‑term excellence.
Providers that are awarded the Quality Mark become part of a dedicated community of practice, bringing together organisations committed to raising standards across the wellbeing sector. Benefits include:
- peer‑learning and collaborative sessions
- access to shared resources, guidance, and case studies
- regular opportunities to exchange good practice and innovation
- a network of professionals shaping the future of workplace wellbeing.
The Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) and the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych) have come together to establish WISE-QM in recognition of the need for clarity, consistency, and quality assurance across the wellbeing sector.
Combining SOM’s expertise in occupational health with RCPsych’s experience in setting and implementing quality standards ensures a robust, credible, and clinically-informed framework that supports both employers and employees.
