This section provides information about Domain 4 of the RCPsych's Retention Charter launched in autumn 2025.
For each domain there are overarching actions, a maturity matrix to assess what stage your organisation is at, recommendations for how to improve in each area, and good practice examples and links to further help.
Overarching aims for Domain 4
Action 4.1
Support existing medical leaders to remain motivated and deliver their best.
Action 4.2
Support the leadership skills development of all psychiatrists from all career grades, recognising this as a core expression of professional identity.
Action 4.3
Develop managerial skills for all psychiatrists.
Action 4.4
Create clear leadership development pathways and equitable opportunities for psychiatrists to pursue leadership roles in line with the values of the RCPsych and their own organisation identity.
