NI psychiatrist recognised in the 2024 New Year Honours

Today, His Majesty the King announced the 2024 New Year Honours list and we are delighted that one of our psychiatrists who worked in Northern Ireland has been recognised for their contributions to psychiatry and mental health.

Dr Muhammad Saleem Khan Tareen, consultant psychiatrist and formally of the Northern Health and Social Care Trust was recognised for services to mental ill health and to community development.

Dr Tareen was a consultant psychiatrist to Holywell Hospital, Antrim and Whiteabbey Hospital. He has been practising psychiatry locally and internationally since 1995. He was clinical lead of Carrickfergus Community Mental Health Team.

Dr Richard Wilson, chair of RCPsych NI, said:

“We’re delighted Dr Tareen’s work has been recognised in such a unique way for his tireless work over the years in mental health.”

Dr Stephen Moore, vice-chair of RCPsych NI, added:

“This Honour is so richly deserved. I would like to wish Dr Tareen huge congratulations from all our members in Northern Ireland.”
