RCPsych announces additional CASC exam for affected candidates in February 2026

Statement / comment
05 December 2025

We are pleased to announce an additional sitting for the CASC exam on 12 – 13 February 2026, to address the recent unprecedented oversubscription during the January allocation process.

This situation was unsatisfactory to all of us, and we have been working for the last few days to find a resolution.

The February sitting is specifically for the candidates who were previously unsuccessful in being offered a place at the January sitting. They have received an automatic offer of a place.

We are in direct communication with those affected and supporting them through this process.

The College is liaising with the National Recruitment Board to ensure the timings of the new exam will meet the national recruitment timelines.

We are sorry for the upset and distress caused by this situation and with our task and finish group will look at how best to avoid stalled progression for UK resident doctors. We recognise that UK core resident doctors who face time-sensitive progression need to be given particular consideration.

Professor Subodh Dave, Dean
Dr Ian Hall, Treasurer
Professor Owen Bowden-Jones CBE, Registrar
Dr Nermeen Ahmed, Chair of the Psychiatric Resident Doctors' Committee
Dr Vivek Agarwal, Chief Examiner
