Royal College of Psychiatrists congratulates Professor Swaran Singh on becoming a life peer

Many congratulations to Professor Swaran Singh, Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, who has been granted a life peerage and will serve in the House of Lords as a Conservative Peer.

A distinguished academic psychiatrist and clinical leader, Professor Singh’s appointment recognises his outstanding contribution to academic research, frontline medical practice and public service. Alongside his academic work at the University of Warwick, Professor Singh continues to practise as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust.

As the first psychiatrist to receive an honour of this kind in 16 years, this appointment represents a significant moment for the profession and reinforces the importance of ensuring that mental health care is considered at the highest levels of decision-making.

Commenting on the appointment, Professor Subodh Dave, President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, said:
