Poster competitions for medical students, foundation doctors, trainees and SAS doctors

Each year the North West Division runs a poster competition for medical students, foundation doctors, trainees and SAS doctors at the Division's Conference.

There are three categories, which will be dependent on the entrants taking part and will include:

  • Best medical student/FY1-2 poster
  • Best trainee poster
  • Best SAS doctor poster

Up to three first-place entrants, one from each category, will be selected to give a seven-minute presentation plus three minutes for questions at the North West Division Conference.  Each winner will receive a £100 prize and a certificate of merit.

The remaining entrants will be offered the chance to take part in the North West Division Poster Presentation Prize at the conference and a winner of each category will be selected on the day, each receiving a prize and a certificate of merit.

To enter this competition, please complete the below abstract form using the guidance form provided and ensure you include the correct grade when completing it. Once you have completed your abstract form please proofread it and ensure the word count does not exceed 250 words.

Once you are sure all information is correct please email your abstract form to northwest@rcpsych.ac.uk.

Our staff team will confirm receipt of your abstract and provide you with further information and timelines for the competitions.

The deadline for applications is 21 April 2024.

To enter this competition you must be based in the North West Division which covers the following regions:

  • Cheshire
  • Cumbria
  • Greater Manchester
  • Lancashire
  • Merseyside

Please note: if you are based outside this area your abstract will not be accepted.

You must be available to attend the Conference, in person, on Thursday 9 May 2024 in Manchester.

You must enter your correct and current grade on the abstract form and the work must be completed whilst studying or working in the North West Division.

Abstracts over 250 words will be returned to you for correction. If they are not returned by the competition closing date they will not be accepted.

Any entries submitted after the deadline of 21 April 2024 will not be accepted.

The abstracts with the highest score from each category will be asked to do an oral presentation at the conference and will receive a £100 prize money as well as a certificate of merit.

The remaining entrants will be offered the chance to take part in the North West Division Poster Presentation Prize at the conference.

You will be contacted after the event with information on payment of the prize fund.

Our Spring Conference is scheduled to be held at Kings House Conference Centre on Thursday 09 May 2024.

Poster boards will be available in the first floor hall on level 1 and upon arrival a member of staff will assign you a board to display your poster.

Poster presentations must be displayed throughout the conference. Entrants are expected to be available for questions from delegates during breaks in the conference.

Entrants will be told the result of the competition after the lunch break.
