"I am enormously saddened to learn of the death, earlier today, of Dame Fiona Caldicott who was both the first woman Dean and the first woman President of the College.
"She is of course best known as the Chair of the Caldicott Committee and her ground-breaking work on safeguarding patient information as the UK’s first National Data Guardian for Health and Social Care.
"The Royal College of Psychiatrists will remember her as an inspirational leader and a brilliant and pioneering psychiatrist.
"On behalf of the College, I would like to send our sympathy and condolences to her family."
Dr Adrian James, President, Royal College of Psychiatrists
