Humza Yousaf is to succeed Nicola Sturgeon as Scotland's new first minister.
Commenting on the new first minister, Dr Linda Findlay, Chair of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland, said:
“This is a new dawn for Scottish politics and our congratulations goes to Humza Yousaf as he takes on the challenge of leading our country.
“There is no health without mental health and as such, we’ll be looking to the new first minister to firmly deliver the commitments already promised by the Scottish Government.
“At least 10% of frontline NHS spending needs to go towards mental health – which is even more critical given the current cost of living crisis.
“We also need a coherent workforce strategy which supports the development of specialist staff to safely deliver these services.
“There are huge challenges ahead and the new first minister will need to get to grips quickly, if he's to deliver an efficient mental health service with a solid workforce - which our patients so desperately need.”
