Dr Alex Thomson
Chair, Liaison Faculty
Dr Alex Thomson is Interim Chair of the Liaison Psychiatry Faculty until 2025, having been elected as Vice Chair in 2021.
Alex is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist and Local Tutor for Psychiatry at Northwick Park Hospital, Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. He chairs his trust’s self-harm prevention working group and an expert reference group on mental health crisis hubs. He was a member of the NICE Guidelines Committee on Self-harm and has contributed to the development of other national guidelines, policy and strategy.
Alex has published and presented on frequent emergency department attendance, improving self-harm care, organisational culture, safeguarding, the interface between mental health services and police, and values-based leadership in psychiatry.
Within the Royal College of Psychiatrists, Alex has been a member of the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Network Advisory Group and chairs the Working Group on Mental Health Services and Police Interface.
