Dr Ashish Kumar
Chair, Eating Disorders Faculty
Dr Ashish Kumar is a Fellow of the RCPsych, Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust. In this role he is leading on the transformation of CAMHS services in line with NHS long term plan.
Dr Kumar has worked extensively as lead consultant in the field of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, ASD, complex mental and behavioural disorders across age range and risk management of high-risk patients.
Dr Kumar has a passion to make complex concepts and situations simple for patients, carers, mental health services and wider systems and this has been the hallmark of his work as Associate Medical Director in the trust. He has worked to raise awareness about 'implementation science' and is working on TRIANGLE implementation research at King's College, London. He has led his regional eating disorder service to be recognised as top four performing service in the country by NHS England.
Dr Kumar worked with European and international colleagues to establish the European Chapter of the Academy for Eating Disorders in 20218 and was the President of the European Chapter of AED until 2021. He was awarded with 'Global Leadership Award' at Academy for Eating Disorders Congress in Chicago in 2019.
Dr Kumar has worked with AED and Faculty of Eating Disorders since 2015 in different roles including Co-chair of PCAC and Medical Care Standards Committee and Vice Chair of the Faculty of ED. In these roles he has contributed to national and international policy revisions and reviews on Eating Disorders, development of curriculum for medical students and psychiatrists. He was one of the authors of recently published MEED guideline and also worked on developmental and delivery of pan-age credentialing pilot in eating disorders.
