Dr Rais Ahmed

Dr Rais Irfan Ahmed is a graduate of Nishtar Medical University and became a member of the RCPsych in 2009 and started working as a consultant in the NHS in 2012. He is currently elected Vice Chair of the RCPsych Trent Division and represented that division on the Leadership and Management Committee (LMC) since 2017 before being appointed Associate Registrar for the Leadership and Management from 1st April 2024 for 5 years.
Besides being a clinical and educational supervisor for trainees, he has been a CASC examiner in a lead examiner role. He has significant medical management experience as Associate Medical Director/Medical Lead on clinical transformation of the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Trust and Chair of the Medical Senate. He has been an active member of the Medical Research & Development department, supervising MHRA approved national and international research trials as Principal Investigator. He has been active with media and public engagement. He was awarded RCPsych Fellowship in 2020, same year when he was elected General Secretary of the British Pakistani Psychiatrists. He has been passionate supporter of the NHS model of healthcare and firmly believes in empowering patients and carers. He has been actively involved in various initiatives with the aim of improving mental healthcare through implementation of Integrated Care Systems.
Dr Ahmed advocates enhancing medical leadership a mean to improve access to safe and effective healthcare for people when they need it. He is excited about taking up his new position and looking forward to playing his role in materialising the vision of the Royal College of Psychiatrist team.
