Supporting Spotlight Day and Healthier Planet, Healthier People

We’re taking part in Greener NHS’s Spotlight Day, to support their Healthier Planet, Healthier People campaign.

At RCPsych we’re clear that the climate and ecological emergency the world faces is a mental health emergency.

Earlier this year, we published a position statement setting out what the College will do to get to net zero, and what we’re calling on others working in healthcare and mental health to do.

Our delegates have been active observers at the global climate conference, COP26 in Glasgow, lobbying for national leaders to take action and highlighting the links between climate change and mental health.

What's happening today

Today, we’re sharing links to a range of sustainability resources on our social media channels.

And we’re hosting an event at the World Health Organisation pavilion at COP26 – chaired by our President Dr Adrian James – which asks the question ‘What is the future of healthcare if we do nothing?’

'We join the call for action'

RCPsych President Dr Adrian James said: “Climate change is a health issue and a mental health issue.

“We know that climate change causes mental illness and some of the steps we have got to take will really improve the lives of our patients.

“We’re delighted to support Greener NHS for Spotlight Day, and join their call for action at government, organisation and individual level.”
