Professor Grainne McAlonan

Gráinne is a Clinical Professor of Translational Neuroscience at Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London. She studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London and completed a PhD in behavioural neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. After clinical and research posts in the UK, she worked for over a decade in the University of Hong Kong before returning to the IoPPN and the National Autism and ADHD Service for Adults in the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Her research work is occupied by lead roles in the fetal-neonatal and infant studies and adult psychopharmacology studies within the AIMS-2-TRIALS consortium (the world’s largest Autism research award). She also leads the clinical programme of Brain Health in Gen 2020, a major philanthropic award to study the impact of the pandemic on childhood brain development. As Director of the NIHR Maudsley BRC her goal is to work with patients and wider stakeholders across multiple themes of investigation - from genomics and experimental medicine to digital interventions and informatics - to optimize local and national brain and mental health and build capacity in translational psychology, psychiatry and neuroscience research.
