Professor Whitty will deliver a 30-minute keynote address at the Congress, titled: “Reflecting and looking forward: the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic upon mental health”. The following quotes have been shared in advance.
“I want to say a huge thank you to everybody, both in the UK and internationally, who has responded to the crisis around the world. I think the response of the medical and wider health and mental health profession has been really quite remarkable.”
“The research response to COVID in general, which includes the mental health research response, has been very remarkable and I think that’s one of the bits of the response here in the UK and in many other nations which we will look back and say this was probably as good as it could have been in terms of the research approach.”
“This [the pandemic] has had a very profound impact on the profession who have still come in every day to work to support the health, physical and mental, of fellow citizens. The expertise of people on this Congress will be essential to make sure we minimise the impact in the long run.”
