Your chance to shape the future of the College

Below you can find out about all the different ways to put yourself forward to influence the work of the College and to represent your colleagues.

Could you be our next President?

In June 2026 our President, Dr Lade Smith CBE, will be demitting office. Nominations to be her successor will open on 23 January 2026.

The position of President is the most senior member role in the College, with a national and international leadership role in psychiatry.

The President also chairs our Council and Board of Trustees.

All RCPsych Members, Fellows and Specialist Associates can stand for election as President, and all can vote for the next President when voting opens on 18 March.

See our website for more information about how to stand for election as President.

Would you like to be part of our Council?

The College Council leads on matters relating to education, policy, professional practice, professional standards, public engagement, quality, research, and training in psychiatry.

We have a vacancy for an Elected Council Member, to replace Dr Ian Hall who has resigned the role after becoming Treasurer. This is a vital role as our four elected council members represent the views of the membership on Council.

Find out more about how you can represent members on one of our most important decision-making bodies.

Want to represent your specialty, region, special interest, or fellow resident doctors?

We have many other elected roles open for nominations right now. This is an excellent way to represent your colleagues and to shape the profession. Holding a College role can also benefit your employer.

Applications are open now for various roles on Faculties, Divisions, Devolved Nations, International Divisions, Special Interest Groups, and the Psychiatric Resident Doctors’ Committee.
