  • Salary : Voluntary role
  • Closing date : 04/04/2025

We are seeking a dynamic Books Editor to lead the RCPsych’s vibrant book publishing programme for the next five years.

In partnership with Cambridge University Press, the College publishes a varied books list, with titles published in the last year including key texts such as Fish’s Clinical Psychopathology, topical discussions such as Major Incidents, Pandemics and Mental Health, and more reflective books such as Rebecca Lawrence’s memoir An Improbable Psychiatrist.

The new Books Editor will work with a Books Committee drawn from the College membership to commission, evaluate and develop proposals for new and updated titles, supporting authors to ensure their books are relevant and valuable to a primary audience of practising psychiatrists, from trainees onwards.

The job description below sets out the key requirements and person specifications.

  3. The post is for an initial term of five years, which is renewable by mutual agreement.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, and particularly encourage applications from groups that are underrepresented in academic psychiatry; this is including but not limited to people from Black ethnic groups, women and people with disabilities.

As a values-based organisation, we put equity, diversity and inclusion at the heart of all we do. We strive to create processes, opportunities and environments that are fair and accessible to all. The College recognises that each individual has different circumstances and endeavours to support them in order to reach equitable outcomes to those around them.

The Books Editor will work closely with members of the Books Committee, College staff, key contacts at Cambridge University Press and the College Editor, as well as with authors and contributors.

Travel and subsistence

Travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with College policy. No other remuneration is available for this post.
