Medfest 2018: Beyond Words
President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, I am delighted to
invite you to ‘Medfest 2018: Beyond Words’, an
international medical film festival held at the Royal College of
Psychiatrists on Wednesday 23 May 2018. This will be the closing
event of the festival.
Medfest aims to promote and discuss topics relevant to mental
healthcare professionals. We hope to raise the profile of mental
health issues and inspire people through the medium of film.
Medfest 2018 is proud to have been organised by a committee of
psychiatry trainees from The Maudsley Training Programme.
The theme this year is ‘Beyond Words’ and will explore topics
including the power and impact of noise and silence, mental health
struggles, cultural psychiatry, meditation and mindfulness.
During the event a selection of short film clips will be shown
and discussed by a panel of eminent speakers before the floor is
opened to the audience for comments and questions.
This year’s confirmed speakers include:
- Professor Wendy Burn, President of The Royal College of
- Patrick Shen, Director of ‘In Pursuit of Silence’
- Dr Mina Husain, Executive Producer of ‘Paak (Pure)’
- Dr Florian Ruths, Consultant Psychiatrist and Cognitive

Registration will be from 6:00pm for a prompt 6:30pm start.
Following the event, from 8:30 pm, there will be a drinks
reception, giving you the opportunity to continue with the
stimulating discussion that we hope the evening will create.
The event is free to attend but you must register in advance.
