The Royal College of Psychiatrists Improving the lives of people with mental illness

Medfest 2018: Beyond Words

Medfest 2018As President of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, I am delighted to invite you to ‘Medfest 2018: Beyond Words’, an international medical film festival held at the Royal College of Psychiatrists on Wednesday 23 May 2018. This will be the closing event of the festival.

Medfest aims to promote and discuss topics relevant to mental healthcare professionals. We hope to raise the profile of mental health issues and inspire people through the medium of film. Medfest 2018 is proud to have been organised by a committee of psychiatry trainees from The Maudsley Training Programme.

The theme this year is ‘Beyond Words’ and will explore topics including the power and impact of noise and silence, mental health struggles, cultural psychiatry, meditation and mindfulness.

During the event a selection of short film clips will be shown and discussed by a panel of eminent speakers before the floor is opened to the audience for comments and questions.

This year’s confirmed speakers include:

  • Professor Wendy Burn, President of The Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Patrick Shen, Director of ‘In Pursuit of Silence’
  • Dr Mina Husain, Executive Producer of ‘Paak (Pure)’
  • Dr Florian Ruths, Consultant Psychiatrist and Cognitive Therapist

Date: 6:30pm, Wednesday 23 May 2018

Venue: The Royal College of Psychiatrists, 21 Prescot St, Whitechapel, London E1 8BB
