What will this event cover?
The South Eastern Division welcome Professor Ramalingam Chithiramohan and Mrs Agostina Secchi who will deliver talks on the pharmacological management of chronic insomnia and recent research on Clozapine.

Speakers
Professor Ramalingam Chithiramohan: Pharmacological management of Chronic Insomnia with a special focus on the role of Orexin and Dual Orexin receptor Antagonists
Professor Ramalingam Chithiramohan, is a Consultant Psychiatrist and former Deputy Medical Director and Director of Governance and Service Effectiveness at the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. He is now the Lead Consultant for Birmingham and Solihull Memory Assessment services.
In the last three years, he was involved with the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) in delivering education in Low and Middle income countries. He has developed a number of online training modules on Vascular Cognitive Impairment/ HIV and mental health, timely diagnosis of dementia and Dementias with Parkinsonian features. He was also a member of the WPA Evidence-Based Psychopharmacology Special Interest Group.
Key learning outcomes of presentation:
- To learn about the health implications of Chronic insomnia
- To learn about the role of Orexin in Sleep Wake regulation
- To learn about the appropriate short and longer-term use of hypnotics
Mrs Agostina Secchi: Clozapine management, barriers and possible solutions. A focus on the competence and confidence of professionals
Agostina Secchi has over 14 years of experience as a pharmacist specializing in mental health services. She started her career as a clinical pharmacist, gaining knowledge in psychopharmacology, patient safety, and collaborating within multidisciplinary teams. As time went on, her role transitioned into clinical leadership and education, contributing to the training of future professionals.
Currently, Mrs Secchi serves as the lead pharmacist for the Crisis and Home Treatment Team, where she provides strategic guidance in medication management and ensure that care for individuals facing acute mental health crises is safe, evidence-based, and centered on patients. She is also working towards a PhD, conducting research on optimizing clozapine usage for treatment-resistant schizophrenia, which involves examining the barriers to prescribing and developing strategies to enhance proficiency and confidence among healthcare professionals.
Mrs Secchi's career is fueled by a commitment to improving patient outcomes, empowering healthcare practitioners, and advancing the role of pharmacists in mental health services.
