Overview
This two-day interactive training programme provides psychiatrists with an immersive, practice-based training for the role of an expert witness in both the family court and the criminal courts. Led by Professor Keith Rix, Dr Samrat Sengupta and specialist barristers from the Chambers of Mark Love, 2 Dr Johnson’s Buildings (2DRJ), the course takes place at the Royal Courts of Justice and combines live court room simulations, workshops, report writing, cross-examination and direct insight in order to build confidence and competence in as an expert witness.
Whilst primarily designed for psychiatric experts in the family court, the course is also suitable for psychiatrists preparing to give or already giving evidence in criminal proceedings.
The course takes place over two separate days and attendance is required at both. Between the first and second day, participants prepare a report based on supplied case material, they exchange their report with one other participant and then prepare a critique of the report with which they have been supplied. On the second day participants are cross-examined on their report.
