Head of the leading UK and most productive European Addictions research group at the National Addiction Centre (Kings College London). Academic Lead of Addictions Clinical Academic Group (CAG) within Kings Health Partners Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC). Qualified as a medical doctor and senior academic. Key contributor (as Chair) to major UK policy and practice committees and contributor to international policy and practice committees (e.g. UN; WHO). 

Major research academic with over 500 addictions publications including extensive original research; special interest in policy formation and the relationship of research to the improvement of treatment as well as formal policy formation. 40 years’ experience in diverse areas of the Addictions Treatment field; extensive experience as lead clinician for innovative responses in community and residential settings.

Awarded EUFAS Lifetime Achievement Award (European Federation of Addiction Societies) in 2019. 
Received Knighthood in Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2016 for ‘services to medicine, addictions and public health’.
