Professor Alka Ahuja and Ollie John will be presenting on an innovative technology enabled remote monitoring programme at the UK's largest digital health expo.
The unique programme has been co-produced with young people in Wales.
Remote monitoring is the use of technology, to monitor patients outside of a clinical setting with the help of medical devices, questionnaires, and clinical dashboards, allowing clinicians to review data to assist in clinical assessment and decision-making.
The TERMS (Technology Enabled Remote Monitoring in Schools) programme is the culmination of a Health Foundation funded research project that explored the integration of remote monitoring in educational settings through school site workshops. A series of pilots were undertaken with schools, which drew the attention of Ministers in Welsh Government.
While this method is already established for conditions such as Diabetes and Asthma it is not currently common practice across mental health.
Ollie John, National Manager of RCPsych in Wales, said:
“Schools are pivotal for promoting student well-being and early interventions, leading to reduced negative outcomes like exclusion and school absence. We're delighted to share how TERMS has been developed with schools across Wales.
“We're also pleased to be presenting alongside the DECIDE (Digitally Enabled Care in Diverse Environments) centre, which is a partnership between the University of Oxford and RAND Europe. They'll be sharing their learning about key influences on the success of TERM pathways.”
