Submit ideas for BJPsych International blog

BJPsych international is looking for new submissions to its long-running blog series, Muses.

The blog aims to highlight international art and artists specifically across the diaspora and low-and-middle income countries.

The art and artists surrounding the series have a connection to mental health through either first-hand experience or within the art.

Muses has been in publication for two years, published monthly with content held on Cambridge Core blog, with over 30 posts so far.

BJPsych International is proud to share the stories that live within the intersection of creative arts and mental health.

The blog is headed by Dr Dami Ajayi, who in his reflection on two years of Muses stated:

“Contributing to Muses has been inspiring for our authors and a learning experience for me as an editor.

“I have seen firsthand the therapeutic power of creativity unperturbed by the fragility of minds. Many of our contributors yearn for platforms and safe spaces to commune with each other, to borrow Dolapo Ogedenge’s words, where they could be ‘alone together.’

“It occurred to me that these spaces could be physical and virtual. I hope Muses is one such space.”

BJPsych International welcomes submissions for consideration, such as comments on artwork, visual arts, literature, drama/theatre, films, podcasts, videos and more.

As this is an open call, submissions are welcome at any time. Previous submissions have ranged from first-person perspectives of artists, insights into creative art forms, to reviews and reflections of various works of art.

We consider submissions between 300-500 words in a conversational style, and we accept accompanying multimedia for posts.

More information is available on the format of articles and how to submit them.
