Have your say on the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan for England
The Government has launched an engagement exercise to support the development of its 10 Year Health Plan in England.
We will be submitting an evidence-based response by 2 December.
Psychiatry has been at the forefront of transforming models of patient care over several decades.
Today, services are better designed to deliver care before people become seriously unwell. We welcome this opportunity to inform the Government’s strategy and shape the future of mental healthcare.
Our membership can submit their views on the challenges and benefits of the three ‘shifts’ the Government has prioritised:
Moving more care from hospitals to communities – lessons learned from mental health services transformation and pointing to where further improvements and resources are needed for parity of esteem.
Making better use of technology in health and care – bringing expertise around informatics and digital care delivery to bear, while also making the case for more research investment.
Focusing on preventing sickness, not just treating it – underlined by our understanding of the impact of health inequalities upon quality and outcomes, highlight evidence on the importance of prevention to alleviate mental illness.
We are clear that for the Plan to be effective, resources must be devoted to address staff wellbeing and retention, starting with the Budget and Spending Review. There must be detail on how the national workforce strategy and the 10 Year Health Plan relate to each other.
Members are welcome to send material to your faculties and divisions for collated responses to inform our overarching submission.
We have set up a portal so you can submit your views on the ‘shifts’ and policy ideas for the short, medium and longer term.
The membership portal is open until 20 November. If you have any queries, please contact samuel.hunt@rcpsych.ac.uk.
