Inquest Supervisor Training Workshop
Join us for the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Inquest Supervisor Training Workshop organised by the Supervising Trainees through Inquest Working Group, which stems from the Wellbeing Committee.
This event aims to provide clinical supervisors with the crucial skills needed to support resident doctors who are facing the challenging aftermath of a patient’s death.
This full-day, face-to-face workshop will be held Thursday 6 March and has been designed to help supervisors navigate the emotional and professional complexities involved when a patient dies, particularly in cases of suicide.
The workshop will focus on vital areas, including the profound impact a patient’s death can have on healthcare professionals and how training organisations can develop and implement robust support structures to help mitigate the emotional and psychological consequences.
Attendees will also gain hands-on experience through experiential learning exercises and will have the opportunity to engage in reflective discussions in both small and large group settings.
These interactive sessions are designed to deepen understanding and refine the supervision skills essential for guiding trainees through such sensitive and challenging events.
Participants will receive a certification as Trained Inquest Supervisors, which will be beneficial for their professional appraisal and will be worth up to six CPD points (subject to peer group approval).
This certification acknowledges the important role that clinical supervisors play in ensuring that doctors in training receive the support they need during critical moments in their medical careers.
Facilitators for the event include Dr Hannah Cappleman, Dr Rachel Gibbons, Dr Bessie Venables, Dr Caroline Ardron, Dr Declan Hyland, Dr Nisha Balan, Dr Lynsey McAlpine, and Dr Rosie Clarke, each bringing valuable expertise to the training.
The workshop will take place in person at the College’s London headquarters, 21 Prescot Street, London, E1 8BB.
