A vacancy has arisen for a Section Editor covering the area of Old Age Psychiatry. Further information about the role of a BJPsych Advances Editorial Board member is included below.
Key responsibilities of a BJPsych Advances Section Editor
- handle papers through the peer review process
- regularly review journal content and recommend commissioning to fill any gaps
- act as an ambassador, helping to promote the journal to authors, readers and subscribers
- advise and support the BJPsych Advances Editor-in-Chief, who has responsibility for the content of the journal
- review papers for the journal on a regular basis and assist in identifying reviewers
- contribute content such as Articles, Clinical Reflections, Refreshments, Commentaries, ideas for commissions topics and potential authors
- contribute to the strategic development of the journal
- attend board meetings around three times a year held remotely 2-3 times per year
Required
- Consultant or equivalent
- Higher degree or equivalent
- Record of peer-reviewing for mental health research
- Evidence for contributing editorial material to journals (such as commentaries or editorials)
- Ability to work as part of a team
Desirable
- Record of reviewing for BJPsych Advances or BJPsych portfolio journals
- Record of journal editing in mental health
How to apply
- A CV and covering letter of approximately 100 words should sent to the Editor-in-Chief to confirm entry requirements are met. The letter should explain why the applicant wishes to apply for the role and should include relevant experience.
- Consultation/interview with the Editorial Board and Editorial team as required
- Board members are recruited for a term of 3 years, subject to annual review. Terms may be extended at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief.

Travel and subsistence
Travel and subsistence expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with College policy. No other remuneration is available for this post.
