Overview of the role
Are you a resident doctor in higher training interested in gaining experience in eLearning?
We are looking to appoint a Trainee Editor for MRCPsych eLearning (formerly Trainees Online [TrOn]), which offers several online learning resources candidates may find helpful in preparing for the written components of the MRCPsych exams.
TrOn launched in 2014 with the aim of creating a CPD-style site specifically for those preparing for the MRCPsych exams; in 2025, TrOn was rebranded as MRCPsych eLearning and the remit of the resource was expanded to comprise Paper A resources (formerly TrOn), Paper B resources and Other useful resources.
MRCPsych eLearning Paper A modules have been published for the majority of the Basic Sciences syllabus, with other modules being prepared for publication. Our modules have been remapped to the new MRCPsych syllabus, 1-5 (inclusive): Paper A mapping.
The Trainee Editor role will involve supporting the continued development of modules, planning for sustainability of completed modules and improving the effectiveness of MRCPsych eLearning as a learning tool for MRCPsych exams, as well as opportunities to develop additional resources to support exam preparation.
Key responsibilities
Duties will include:
- identifying suitable authors by assessing applications from resident doctors in higher training interested in writing commissioned modules, where necessary
- liaising with commissioned authors to support module production ensuring that the modules are educationally valuable, accessible to and meet the needs of those preparing for MRCPsych examinations; this includes providing written and verbal feedback
- contributing to modules, including co-authoring modules if required, and authoring sections of modules which require updating
- systematically improving published materials, including utilising user feedback and responding to curricular changes to ensure modules are relevant and effective
- supporting publicity of MRCPsych eLearning, including at events such as RCPsych’s International Congress, and through social media/written communications
- completing mapping exercises to assist with ensuring the provision of appropriate revision resources through MRCPsych eLearning
- contributing to the development of question banks
- identifying and developing materials for the Other useful resources section of MRCPsych eLearning
- advising on the future development and sustainability of MRCPsych eLearning.
The MRCPsych eLearning Trainee Editor will be expected to attend the eLearning Board meetings (remotely, approximately three per year), and occasional meetings with editorial staff as required.
About MRCPsych eLearning
Trainees Online (TrOn) was launched in 2014 with the aim of creating a CPD-style site specifically for those preparing for the MRCPsych exams. The commissioned modules aim to cover all aspects of the syllabus in terms of ‘basic sciences’ (approximately 65 modules) and have to be approved by an exam panel member before publication.
In 2021 the College embarked on a major replatforming project to launch the new eLearning Hub, the home of College eLearning, where these resources are hosted.
In 2025, TrOn was rebranded as MRCPsych eLearning and the remit of the resource was expanded to offer several online learning resources which candidates may find helpful in preparing for the written components of the MRCPsych exams: Paper A resources (formerly TrOn), Paper B resources and Other useful resources.
