The College is supporting the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to recruit a higher specialty Resident Doctor or SAS Doctor to a Fellowship role to work on all stages of mental health guidance development.
NICE is an independent organisation responsible for producing useful and useable guidance for the NHS and the wider health and care system. Their recommendations help practitioners and commissioners get the best care to people, fast, while ensuring value for the taxpayer. They do this using the best available evidence to develop guidance to improve health and social care. Their guidance takes many forms including Clinical Guidelines, Health Technology Appraisals and Late-Stage Assessment.
They offer fellows regular supervision, networking, peer support and CPD opportunities via participation in the NICE Clinical Network, Registrars and Fellows meetings and supervisor’s meetings.
Full details of the role and essential and desirable criteria can be found in the job description below.
The time commitment for this role is one day per week (special interest or SPA time as appropriate).
Applications are welcome from across the UK. Resident Doctors will require the written support of their Training Programme Director (TPD) and Head of School. SAS Doctors will require written support from their regional Associate Postgraduate Dean (APD) responsible for the SAS portfolio and Trust Medical Director.
Closing date for applications is 11.59pm on 12 June 2025. Interviews will be held online/remotely in the morning on either 19 June or 1 July 2025.
Salary costs/expenses
Salary costs are already covered within the Resident Doctor’s contracts with their Local Educational Provider, and for SAS Doctors by their employer. Travel expenses are covered by NICE where the Fellow is required by NICE to travel to locations outside their chosen office base of Manchester or London or between the two NICE offices.
