Wellcome Collection Wikimedian in Residence

Wellcome Collection have a Wikimedian, Alice White, who works with librarians, members of the public, researchers and other organisations to encourage contributions to the development of Wikimedia content like Wikipedia articles, and to make the Library's content more publicly accessible.

The Wiki-work is especially focussed on making Wikipedia (and other sites like Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata) more diverse.

One way we're doing this is to focus on mental health and history of mental health: Wellcome Library digitised historical records of key UK psychiatric institutions and personnel, which we're encouraging people to research, share, and use to add information to Wikipedia.

We're also focussed on creating articles on women in medicine and science (to help to address Wikipedia’s gender gap).

There are lots of ways to get involved:

  • Have you spotted something missing or inaccurate? Suggest articles to be created or developed on Wikipedia

  • Would you like to develop new skills? Attend a workshop or ask for training

  • Planning an event and want to extend your reach beyond attendees on the day? Let me know and we can plan to edit relevant Wikipedia content connected with the event themes and track subsequent impact.

  • Or... something else – feel free to suggest things!

Please email Alice if you'd like to get involved in any way.
