Dr Ignacio Agell-Argiles

Dr Ignacio Agell-Argiles graduated in Medicine and Surgery from Barcelona University in 1992.
He initially trained as surgeon and continued his training in the UK in 1995 before discovering psychiatry, which he describes as the best combination of science and humanism.
He then completed his basic training on the Keele rotation and his higher training with the Yorkshire Deanery, where he specialised in Adult Mental Health and Liaison Psychiatry. He returned to Staffordshire as a Consultant Psychiatrist in 2004.
Dr Agell is currently a Consultant Psychiatrist in one of the acute in-patient wards at St George’s Hospital, Stafford. He is Associate Medical Director with the portfolio of doctors with concerns and Clinical Director for Adult Mental Health services in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
Dr Agell is particularly interested in clinical leadership and in supporting teaching and research in clinical settings.
He was awarded the 2012 Mental Health Research Network Associate Award to acknowledge this work.
