Dr Abu Abraham - Consultant Psychiatrist and Deputy Director of Medical Education, and Clinical Sub Dean (Psych) ARU Medical School, Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Mary BarrettDr Mary Barrett is Consultant Psychiatrist for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust where she is an active Psychiatric and Educational Supervisor.  She previously held the role of Training Programme Director for Higher ID Training across the East Midlands, plus was Chair of the RCPsych ID Specialty Advisory Committee and led on the recent ID Curriculum rewrite.  Dr Barrett is the current RCPsych Specialist Advisor for LTFT training, as well as Champion of Flexible Working and SuppoRTT for Leicestershire Partnership Trust.  She is a member of the RCPsych Neurodiversity Working Group as well as supporting RCPsych to develop ND training for psychiatrists.

Dr Debasis Das Consultant Psychiatrist & Deputy Medical Director (CCIO), Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, and Head of the East Midlands Postgraduate School for Psychiatry, NHS England, and RCPsych Specialist Advisor for Continuing Professional Development. 

Dr Mhairi Hepburn - Old age psychiatrist in Perth. Electroconvulsive therapy lead consultant in Dundee. Honorary clinical lecturer at University of Dundee. RCPsych in Scotland Equity Champion. Neurodivergent and bipolar. Co-founder of Clinic Letter Fairy Godmother. Interests include neurodiversity, doctors' mental health, ethics and the history of medicine.

Dr Rebecca Jacob - is a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist working in Fulbourn and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. She has a special interest in student wellbeing and is Clinical Lead for a University of Cambridge clinical student mental health service. She has been closely involved in postgraduate training throughout her career, undertaking a variety of formal roles within medical education, including that of College Tutor, Training Programme Director and presently, Interim Director of Medical Education in her Trust (CPFT).

Dr Ashish PathakMBBS, FRCPsych, MSc (Clinical Neuropsychiatry), MSc (Health & Medical Education), PGC (MRSI), PGC (WBL) and Consultant Psychiatrist (General Adult Psychiatry & Old Age Psychiatry) and Clinical Tutor (South Essex) and Psychiatrist Lead for Southend Rough Sleepers Mental Health Team (RSMHT).

Dr Abdul RaoofDr Raoof has more than 25 years of experience in treating long-term serious mental illnesses, especially psychosis and bipolar disorder. He is particularly interested in rehabilitation through collaborating with patients, their family and carers, and clinicians from a range of professional backgrounds.

He is also interested in the legal and ethical aspects of mental health practice, and is vice chair of the Mental Health Act Approval Panel for NHS Midlands and East of England. As EPUT’s Director of Medical Education, Dr Raoof is actively involved in teaching, training and developing courses for doctors of all levels of experience and seniority, as well as other health and care professionals. He is an honorary Senior Lecturer at Norwich Medical School (University of East Anglia) and Anglia Ruskin University Medical School in Chelmsford. Dr Raoof was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2016. 

Dr Fiona Thompson - qualified as a doctor in 1997 from the University of Leeds. She trained in psychiatry and has worked as a consultant in Cambridge since 2009. She is the clinical lead for Liaison Psychiatry in Addenbrookes hospital. She is the Training Programme Director for Old Age Psychiatry for the East of England. 

Dr Indira Vinjamuri - Consultant Psychiatrist- CRHT,  Director of Medical Education- Merseycare NHS FT, Associate Dean- RCPsych, and Honorary senior lecturer- Liverpool University. 

This course will provide you with a solid grounding in the structure of postgraduate psychiatric training and the roles played by key governing and commissioning organisations. By completing the course you will have gained a strong understanding of the role of supervisor and the main principles, teaching methods and processes involved.

Upon completing this course, attendees will be:

  • Able to describe the structure of PG psychiatric training.
  • Able to describe the organisation, governance and commissioning roles of GMC, the RCPsych, NHSE, etc. 
  • Able to describe and differentiate Educational/Clinical/Psychiatric supervisory roles of the trainer as per the latest RCPsych guidance. 
  • Aware of relevant key GMC, RCPsych, NHSE documents. 
  • Able to describe the structure of the new RCPsych curriculum. 
  • Able to describe key concepts/principles of workplace-based learning.
  • Able to understand the importance of Induction, clear objective setting, shared expectations, and regular supervision for better: Patient safety, Patient experience, clinical and educational outcomes. 
  • Able to understand recent developments in Foundation Year and GP curricula. 
  • Aware of the implications of the junior doctors' contract.
  • Able to describe the mental health components of FY and GP curricula. 
  • Able to describe and differentiate summative and formative assessments.
  • Able to describe RCPsych recommended WPBAs and their roles. 
  • Able to describe ARCP process, elements and required documentation and be familiar with RCPsych Portfolio online (will see it in action).
  • Able to describe some principles of adult learning/teaching methods. 
  • Able to describe and practice some principles of effective feedback methods.
  • Able to describe well known ‘Dos and Don’ts’ of giving feedback. 
  • Able to recognise signs and symptoms of a trainee in difficulty. 
  • Able to understand potential causes of difficulty for trainees.
  • Able to form an appropriate management plan for the trainee making use of available resources as necessary.

You will automatically receive a certificate of attendance 1 week after the event has taken place.

This course is eligible for up to 6 CPD hours, subject to peer group approval.
